Transfiguration Church in Chukotka's capital Anadyr - this is one of the iconic sights of the city. The church is located in the building of the Orthodox chapel, which until the 1920s. Anadyr belonged to the parish of St. Nicholas Innokentievskaya village Markovo.
The history of the parish began with the construction in 1862 in Markovo church in honor of St. Nicholas. In the same village I lived permanently church clergy: rector of the church Mitrofan Schipitsyn and acolyte Vereshchagin. Parish books held in custody in the city district archives, signed by a priest and acolyte Schipitsynym A. Fedotov John Schipitsynymi.
In Soviet times, the chapel several times rebuilt and reconstructed. It housed utility rooms, shops and clubs. In the 1990s. severely dilapidated building was given to the group of believers. The first priests who served here in modern times, become a priest and monk Pitirim S. Porshunov.
After the foundation in 2000, the diocese of Anadyr and Chukotka Transfiguration Church acquired the status of a cathedral. On the occasion of the establishment of the city in 2004, the monument to Saint Nicholas in the Church of the Transfiguration, eight bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church made service. In 2005 Anadyr future Patriarch visited the temple - Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad. In 2008 the church was closed, services are not committed.
In 2012, there was talk about the restoration of the historic building. In the same year, thanks to the financial support of local entrepreneurs the interior of the church was completely renovated and reopened the church for the faithful.
