Center for the Arts "Araluen" that combines four galleries and a theater - is the main place in Alice Springs for exhibitions and performances. It was opened in 1984.

The main subject of attention of galleries - the work of artists of Central Australia Aboriginal and contemporary art. It contains works ranging from the 1930s to the present day. An important part of the collection consists of works by the artist Albert Namatira, who played an important role in the promotion of local Aboriginal art; Papuna intricate works and the works of contemporary artists living in remote communities. Among the interesting exhibits center - a collection of "Weaver Tyanpi desert", consisting of 81 subject, woven by women from the Central Desert. Here you can see the basket, animal figures and sculptures made of emu feathers, fur, grass, beads and other materials. The collection includes 30 different items of clothing indigenous Australians. Since 1991, "Araluen" holds an annual festival of arts «Desert Mob», which presents new works.

Theatre Centre for up to 500 seats, provides a stage for drama, dance and music events. It is often held screenings of art-house cinema.

Of particular interest is the center of the building itself, "Araluen" - it is built next to the 300-year-old cork trees in the sculpture garden. This wood and located near the hill Big Sisters is considered sacred by the Aboriginal tribe "arrernte."
