Río Bec is an archaeological monument of Mexico. This ancient city, situated on the south of the state of Campeche, belongs to the great Mayan civilization, founded it in the seventh century AD.

The first of these ruins spoke traveler from Austria named Teoberto Mahler. He made the assumption that they exist, but on the ground and has not visited. Empirically, the Frenchman went Maurice de Périgny. He was the first person to write a quick note about the place, having been there. Excavations are to this day, they are guided by Dominique Michelet, who leads an expedition of French archaeologists.

The city's architecture has spawned the name of a style of architecture - "Rio Bec". Later this style became common, and in neighboring towns. Its feature is that the temple pyramid usually provided with two towers which do not carry any function and have no interior. Pyramids were so steep, that the stairs, make out the structure, you can not climb up.

The temples are located on the platforms of various sizes, it was also non-functional. They are not even hollow. On some fronts there are quite a true simulation of the door, but that's to open any one of them you do not get. It seems that everything here was built not only to stay, but for aesthetics and decoration. The purpose of these towers is still a mystery to scientists.

It is worth noting that all the buildings are covered with dense thickets. So better to turn for help to the local guides, without it, as they say seasoned travelers, there is little that you can see.
