Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, located in the city of Zamboanga on Mindanao island, is considered one of the largest cathedrals of modern Asia.

The first Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, built of wood on a concrete foundation, once stood near the Pershing Square on the very spot where today the University of Zamboanga. Above the main altar contains the image of the Virgin Mary of the Immaculate Conception, and on either side of him could be seen the image of two saints - Ignatius of Loyola and Francis Xavier. In 1943, during World War II, the cathedral was bombed by Japanese aircraft and was destroyed.

New wooden building of the cathedral was built in 1956 near the University Ateneo de Zamboanga. Earlier this place was a chapel, known as Zharden de Chino. On the left side of the facade was placed a sculpture of the Virgin Mary of the Immaculate Conception in full growth, and on the right stands the bell tower. In 1998 the building of the cathedral was demolished because it was badly damaged by termites.

The present building of the cathedral in the form of a cross was built from 1998 to 2001. Inside you can see a marble statue of the Immaculate Conception, executed Filipino national artist Napoleon Abueva. Along the aisles are located stained symbolic images of all the bishops in Mindanao from 1910 to 1984. Chapel on the first floor is used for weekday Masses. Before it is possible to see the baptistery with the relics of the Blessed Virgin Pillarskoy, patroness of the city. And for the baptistery is located columbarium with a copy of "Pieta" by Michelangelo, and the image of the 12 apostles.
