Dasinshan Temple was founded in the year 268, in the second year of the Western Jin Dynasty, during which the rules of Emperor Wu Di (then called the temple Tszunshan).

The monastery was rebuilt during the reign of the imperial dynasty, the Sui, and then renamed and got its name - "Dasinshan" and then gradually turned into a major center of the entire network, which consists of 45 Buddhist monasteries, who founded the first dynasty Emperor Yang Jian.

During the era of the Tang and Sui temple was one of the main centers for the study of China's Mi-tsung (Chzhenyan) - Indian tantric Buddhism. The monastery worked and lived many Indian monks, including such as Amoghavadzhra (his Chinese name was Boo Kuhn). It was this teacher has carried out in the 8th century translated from Sanskrit into Chinese a lot of different literature, including vadzhrayanistskie sutras. Today it employs dining, tea, Buddhist hotel. The gate of the ancient temple-monastery located on street Dasinshan, and to one side of the temple is adjacent to the hotel of the same name.

In the monastery there is a statue of Maitreya Buddha, made of wood and is likely related to the Song era. Also, there is a gallery of the temple and the headquarters of the Buddhist Association of Xi'an.
