Hall - a building built in the late Gothic style, is located on the Market Square in Wroclaw. Hall is one of the best preserved historical sites in Poland, the most important architectural monument of Wroclaw.
Town Hall was built in several stages over 250 years from the late 13th century to the 16th century. Currently, the mayor's office is located in the Town Hall, City Museum of Wroclaw, as well as the oldest restaurant in the city, located in the basement. In the years 1299-1301 was built the main part of the building, the main purpose of which in those days was trade. In 1328-1333 the building was expanded, it added to the upper floor. This expansion continued throughout the 14th century with the addition of extra rooms, primarily for the court premises. Hall has gradually become a key place of business and administrative functions of the city.
In the 15th and 16th century Wroclaw became a prosperous city, which is reflected in the decoration of the town hall. In 1580 there was an ornate eastern facade with an astronomical clock. The southern facade is decorated with sculptures depicting scenes from urban life. The rapid development of the city resulted in the need to place additional services in the building of the Town Hall, the internal distribution of the space is constantly changing.
In the 19th century there were two major changes. First of all, the court moved to a separate building, a central place in the Town Hall took the city council. Changes have also occurred, and the appearance of the building: the facades were covered loach, which gave the Gothic Town Hall.
During World War II, the Town Hall was badly damaged, until 1953 restoration works were carried out under the direction of Markina Bukowski. Currently, in addition to the mayor's office in the Town Hall is a museum and a beer garden, open in 1275.
