The reason - lack of funding. But the door to the books opened, thanks to large-scale events - several branches of St. Petersburg universities caused by the influx of readers. And in order to maintain the breathless life of the institution, it was introduced a paid subscription, which operated from time to time. Funds began to stand out in sufficient numbers to culture, therefore, pay a visit to the library was abolished. Free access to and use of the subscription if breathed into the house of books a new life. As in 1998, the library became to bear the name of its founder Alvar Aalto.
