On the west side of the city Serafimovich Volgograd region, on the banks of the Don is Ust-Medveditsk Transfiguration Monastery, formed in 1652, the Don Cossacks for the elderly warriors.

In the seventeenth century the monastery was under the auspices of the Army District on the right bank of the Don, opposite the village of Ust-Medveditskaya, surrounded on both sides of the mountainous coast. In the middle of the eighteenth century, the monastery appeared landslides as a result of the spill and Bear rivers Don and in 1752 the monastery temples slipped in spilled Don. At the new location (just above the former) was rebuild the temple in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord (in 1754) and fraternal cells. In 1885, already in the women's Transfiguration Monastery being built church of Our Lady of Kazan on the project of the St. Petersburg academician Arts I.I.Gornostaeva.

After the revolutionary "exploits" and fierce battles during the War of the monastery turned almost into ruins. In 1991 destroyed the monastery was returned to the diocese of Volgograd.

Today, in the monastery are re-built on the site of the demolished in the 1930s, 33 head of the temple (2009) of the Transfiguration and the restored Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan (1875) in Russian-Byzantine style. Symbolically find the bell tower monastery - in the arch of the destroyed temple. Particular attention of tourists attracted by the cave monastery "godfather by the Savior" and "Passionate by the Mother of God", a total length of over 160 meters. The main relic of the monastery is a stone slab, located in a cave, where the preserved imprints of hands and feet abbess Arseny.
