In the north-western part of the Volgograd region in 2003 it was formed Nizhnehopёrsky the natural park to protect the unique cultural and natural values. The park is located in the Alexeyev, Komylzhenskom and Nehaevskom administrative districts and has a total area of 230 thousand hectares.
On the territory of the Natural Park are Nizhnehopёrskogo nineteen specially protected natural monuments of regional and federal levels. Alexis area is rich in beautiful lakes: Kaltuk, Strokalnoe, Larin, and Babinskoe tract Island. District Kumylzhensky attract tourists glacial boulders Shakinskoy grove, monument of the Don Cossacks, and tracts of sand "Kumylzhensky Sands".
Particularly attractive for recreation Shakinskaya oak grove with beautiful dense plantings of trees, abundant wildlife and a boiling spring. From the height of the grove looks like a green island in the middle of the steppes. The highest point of the Natural Park is Kosh-mountain, located on the right bank of the Chopra, from the top of which offers panoramic views of the River Don and sand ridges. At the time, the mountain served as a guard post and was the first refuge of the Cossacks. Near the mouth of Buzuluk rises Russian mountain resembling natural fortress with a hundred-meter cliff from the river. Uniqueness Nizhnehopёrskogo Natural Park is in the vicinity of the rich vegetation with sandy array. Little Desert Nature Park, formed around the periphery of the melting of glaciers, has been called "Kumylga."
The park has survived hopёrsky and original Don Cossacks ethnicity since the Pechenegs and Polovtsy in areas "Wild Field". Monuments are mounds Catacomb culture (dating back to the second millennium BC). Also, the natural park is connected life and work of Nobel Prize winner - writer Mikhail Sholokhov.
