One of the most popular and interesting museums in the Volgograd region Kamyshin is a historical museum, founded in 1961. The museum building is a special attraction of the city and unique in its kind architectural object. This "architectural gem of the Volga region" was built for the district council in 1901 on the grounds of the Moscow architecture in the style of Russian baroque. Nowadays former Zemsky house is an architectural monument of federal importance.

The exposition of the museum of local lore presented in fourteen rooms and is divided into sections: Geography and geology of the region, The fauna, archeology, history of development of the region, social and political life of the county, Kamyshinsky District after the revolution and during the Great Patriotic War. Today the funds Kamyshinsky museum has more than fifty thousand units. The most valuable collection: archaeological, palaeontological, ethnographic and items of antique furniture, clocks, tableware, rare books and numismatic collection. An impressive collection of scientific literature with the book fund, which houses more than sixteen thousand volumes.

In addition to the permanent exhibition in the museum you can see temporary exhibitions of art: paintings Polenov, Roerich, Shishkin and other famous artists. Every year on August 13th (birthday of the museum) in Kamyshin historical museum held an open day.
