The Holy Mountain in Sofia - a monastery complex on the slopes of Vitosha and the neighboring mountains, including the fourteen monasteries. It should be noted that the emergence of the complex occurred spontaneously, the final its formation lasted more than a century, starting from the XIII century.

Initially, the monastery served as the chief Bistrishsky, to this day intact only reached the Church of St. George in the neighboring village of Bistritsa Sofia.

The largest monastic cloister preserved in its original form: Dragalevski St. Our Lady of the Assumption of St. Cherepish. Our Lady, St. Kokalyansky. Archangel Michael, St. Etropolsky. Trinity and Osenovlashsky Seven Thrones. All are located in the mountains around Sofia and next to them the monasteries - in the region of Pernik (Kalkasksky St. Petka, St. Radoboshsky. Trinity Peshtersky St. Nicholas, Zemen St. John the Theologian, and others.).

An interesting fact is that the monasteries of the Sofia Holy Mountain focused around not only the spirit of the people and culture, but also villages that are now part of modern Sofia.

Today the Sofia Holy Mountain monasteries are centers of pilgrimage tourism. These sites are gaining in popularity, due to which the municipality of Sofia 27 paved hiking trails for hiking.
