It is on a high rock fortress Toprah feces. It is located four kilometers to the west of the road that crosses the city of Van. Under this rock there is a vacant lot with the remains of the walls and minarets.
On a hill in the north-eastern outskirts of the city of Van in 8-6 centuries BC. e. Toprakkale fortress was located, which was the residence of the kings of Urartu. Here since 1879 archeological excavations are conducted with various breaks all sorts of expeditions (German, Russian, English). Already we studied the remains of temples and palaces, and found numerous items that characterize the culture of Urartu. This is mainly figures of griffins and deities made of ivory and bronze. Finds from the excavation team under the leadership of Marr and IAOrbeli 1916 are stored in the Hermitage (Leningrad).
