Palacio de Benicarlo, known as the Palace of the Provincial Government of Valencia, located in the Piazza San Lorenzo. It is an old three-storey building, whose construction was begun in 1482 under the leadership of well-known at the time the architect Pere Conte, who was the author of this project.
It was completed in 1510, only the central part of the building. The construction of the towers was completed already in 1585. Thus, it turns out that this building was erected over a century in the heyday of replacing each other architectural styles as Gothic-Renaissance. Yet the bulk of the building sustained in the late Gothic style. The construction of the Palace took part in a huge number of artists of different specialties, among which are the bricklayers, carpenters, painters, craftsmen furniture and many others. From a small patio can get into the interior of the palace - rooms with rich wall paintings, polychrome coffered ceilings and floors decorated with elegant tiles.
This very rich history of the Palace. Since it was built, it belonged to various powerful families. From 1485 he was in possession of the Borgia family, in the middle of the 18th century in a totally derelict state it came into the possession of the Dukes of Gandia, then - the family nest Benavente, and after - the family Osuna. During the Spanish Civil War, it housed the seat of government of the Second Spanish Republic. To date, the Palacio de Benicarló is a place of meeting of the Parliament of Valencia.
