Government Palace (Palacio de la Zheneralitet) is located in the central square of the Virgin Mary, next to the other main buildings of the city, such as the Basilica of the Virgin Mary, the Cathedral of Valencia and others. In earlier times, it was occupied by the Commission, which is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the tax residents of Valencia. After a while there formed a body of representative power of the city. Today the palace is the seat of the Government of the Autonomous Government of Valencia.
The building of the Palace of Government is a very ancient. Its construction was started in 1421 by the architect Pere Conte. The architecture of the Palace there is a mixture of Gothic and Renaissance styles. The building of the Palace, unfortunately, has not been preserved in full - was destroyed by one of its towers. In the middle of the 20th century a group of architects has developed and implemented a project for the reconstruction of the Palace of Government, the most recreating its original appearance.
Through the front door you can get into an unusually nice, cozy small patio.
The interiors of the Palace are striking diversity and richness of decoration. Of particular note is the "Golden Hall" with an amazing painted ceiling, designed by Ginés Linares in 1534, in the decoration of which was attended by many famous artists of that time. On the ground floor there is a majestic "Hall of Cortes' decorated coffered ceiling and a tiled frieze.
Government Palace Valencia is open to visitors from Monday to Friday, and everyone can view it from the outside and inside.
