City of Arts and Sciences - a grandiose architectural complex located in Valencia, the former mouth of the River Turia, migrated to the south after the disastrous floods. City of Arts and Sciences can be considered the greatest masterpiece of modern architecture.

The idea of ​​creating such a complex offered Jose Maria Lopez Pinero, a professor of the history of science of the University of Valencia. Valencia president Juan Lerma approved the idea, and in 1989 commissioned a team of architects, have already carrying out work in these areas, the development of the project with a bright and unusual appearance. In late 1994, construction began on a large complex designed by architect Santiago Calatrava. The complex City of Arts and Sciences includes five buildings: it is the Opera House, as well as a stage for other theatrical productions (El Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía), Cinema Imax, planetarium and laser theater productions (L'Hemisfèric), Gallery Garden ( L'Umbracle), the Oceanographic park outdoors (L'Oceanogràfic) and the Science Museum (El Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe).

The opening of the complex took place in 1998 with the opening of the first building - L'Hemisfèric - Cinema Imax, planetarium and laser theater productions. The last was completed opera house El Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, which was opened on 8 October 2005.
