In Tver, Novgorod the Free Street, 11, is one of the oldest and most notable churches in the city - Church of the Nativity. The construction of the temple, called the "fishermen", happened in 1743, on the very spot where previously there was an ancient Kletskaya wooden church, which was mentioned in 1696. In the 13-17 centuries in the area of ​​the temple lived a lot of fishermen, for which reason the area became known as "fisherman" or "fish village". The church turned out incredibly large and massive, because of which today attracts the eyes of many passers-by.

Church of the Nativity burned down in 1743, but soon the parishioners decided to immediately start building a new, just have a brick church, the design of which were used elements made of white stone. Construction of the church was carried out in an "octagon on the quadrangle." In the design of the Church of the Nativity of Christ combined the features and elements, not only the classical style, and the Baroque.

Not far from the church is built in two floors house the clergy, the first work on which have fallen to 1775 .  The necessary funds were allocated Catherine II, because in 1763 the house was badly damaged by fire and was nearly destroyed; during a fire killed 33 people who were trying to save the church property and religious shrines - were only the temple wall .  In a terrible and crushing the fire by chance survived the icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow", which charred only one side, but the image did not suffer .  After some time, preserved the miraculous icon was called .  Every year in the restored temple of prayers for the dead were held for those killed in the fire worshipers, while the walls of the temple were made requiem .  The bright memory of the victims, as well as accidents that occurred in the temple, held a procession that starts from the Cathedral and continuing to Church of the Nativity . 

In 1863 the church was equipped with the chapel, which was consecrated in honor of Mitrofan Voronezh. All the works were carried out on cash merchant Kobelev. In late 1999, the church was partially transferred to the Orthodox community, but a full transfer has occurred only in 2001. Today the building of the temple carried out repair and restoration works.
