Grapcheva cave is located seven kilometers from Jelsa in the south of the island of Hvar, near the pastoral shepherd's village Humas. These places are abandoned for many years, is the reigning atmosphere of anyone wanting to return back to the 15th century. There are stunning views of the sea surface.
Access to the cave is not the easiest, but the effort is worth it: Grapcheva cave - a unique phenomenon, which dates back to the Neolithic era (2, 5 thousand. BC), the oldest find in the region. It is situated at 239 meters above sea level. Cave exploration involved the Croatian historian and archaeologist Grga Novak.
Grapcheva cave has two halls, the first of the entrance is the approximate dimensions of 13 by 5 meters, spacious second - 23 meters by 22. It is surrounded by small cameras. A large number of stalactites and stalagmites create a bizarre sight, especially when lit by candlelight.
In Grapchevoy cave were found the remains of a sailing boat, this is the first discovery related to the Hvar culture (3900-3300 BCE). Also in the town of Hvar in the Archaeological Museum are ancient specimens of weapons and various tools, including flint knives, arrows, hammer, pottery and bones of humans and animals, found in a cave Grapchevoy.
In 1964 the cave was declared a natural monument protected by the state. It is open to tourists, the tour organized by the Association "Humas" in Hvar. The village has a restaurant, "Humas" where you can also ask for the key from a small museum in the church. Typically, the administration in Grapchevu cave made from the door of the restaurant.
