Ivan Kuratov was born in 1839 in the family of a deacon in the village of Ust-Kebra Sysolsky county Vologda province (now - the village Kuratovo Sysolsky region of Kazakhstan). In 1854 he graduated from the seminary Yarensk. From 1854 to 1860 he studied at the seminary in Vologda. The purpose of his life has been defined in the poem "The Life of Man" (1857) - give happiness to his people.
Ivan Kuratov deservedly recognized as the founder of Komi literature. At 13 years of age at the seminary, he began to write poetry and continued his poetic creativity until the end of his career. The highly fruitful period of his life was the time spent in Ust-Sysolsk (now - the city of Syktyvkar), where Ivan arrived in 1861 after a failed attempt to continue their education in Moscow. There he started literacy peasant children worked on the linguistic literature and, of course, created a poetry. He lived in a 2-uhetazhnom wooden house, which was later demolished.
