One of the most famous temples of the Komi Republic became St. Kazan Church, located in one of the picturesque places visited Syktyvkar - above the river Sysola.

In the old days on the site of the present temple was built before the chapel, originally built in the village Kochpon. It was consecrated in honor of Saints John and Procopius Ustyug Priory. The earliest mention of the chapel belong to the distant past, when it was listed in the documents of the Holy Trinity Ust-Sysoevskogo arrival. During 1860, with the help of the faithful peasants acquired the chapel altar.

May 27, 1861-built St. Kazan temple consecrated in the name of Kazan icon of Our Lady of the priests of the Holy Trinity Cathedral. Various temple utensils was particularly large for the needs of the commission of sacred worship, because that service has become part of the event and held on holidays, Sundays, and at the request of the faithful parishioners.

June 26, 1901 the outstanding features of the hot weather, accompanied by strong gusts of wind .  Due to strong hurricane one of the peasant houses caught fire and the flames spread so quickly that it was not possible to put it out .  The presence of wind with increasing force helped the flames move from one house to another, burning everything in its path - will soon almost the entire village was dominated by fire and many attempts to prevent the fire did not end successfully .  In the power of fire appeared and church with bell tower, with the burnt iconostasis with icons, numerous church utensils and only a small part of household items was saved .  But the great event marked the sad fate of the village - the icon of Kazan Mother of God appeared survived - soon she found the villagers among piles of burned objects .  The holy icon until today pleases the faithful parishioners, while the iconostasis of the Holy Temple of Kazan .  After all the events villagers vowed an annual event on the day of the terrible conduct moleben to the Lord God and his mother for their salvation from the merciless crushing flame fire . 

After the fire, local villagers have spent a lot of effort to restore their population. Ordeal became fierce winter, which had to endure only a few huts. Since the temple is also burned in the fire, we had to build a new wooden church. In the fall of 1906 built temple was consecrated in honor of Our Lady of Kazan.

Events of 1917 could not affect the fate of the church and the state, which has become a safe haven and the last hope of all the faithful parishioners. Along the perimeter of the temple monks settled many ruined monasteries, lay people and clergy, surviving a terrible spiritual crisis. In 1937, the temple was in complete desolation - the community broke up, the priests were not. In 1938 was the issue of termination of the temple, and the following year it was closed, after which it began to be used as a reading of the hut.

At the height of the war of 1941-1945 St. Kazan church was opened again, and the villagers together took up the reconstruction of the temple. At the same time the church community wrote a letter to the Moscow Office of the Council for Religious Affairs of the People's Commissars with a request addressed to the museum town of Syktyvkar, Komi Republic, to return once seized the temple utensils.

A considerable number of priests many different dioceses began to re-take the path of the priesthood in the newly opened St. Kazan church. As a deacon in the church holds services Syktyvkar and Vorkuta Bishop Pitirim Volochkov. In the spring of 1996 in the temple he visited Alexy II - His Holiness the Patriarch of All Russia, who held a prayer service. In the summer of 1997 in St. Kazan temple was served the first liturgy in the Komi language.

Today the church operates a library intended for congregation. The temple has been active in missionary work. The church parables and priests carry on trips to various regions of the Komi Republic and hold services, organize new parishes and assist in the construction of new churches.
