Sumy Regional Art Museum. NH Onatsky located in the town of Sumy in Red Square, it is a unique treasure trove of works of national and world art. The museum is housed in an old two-storey building with elegant arched windows, which became one of the ornaments of the city center. The mansion, which once housed the former central city bank was built in the late 19th - early 20th st. local architect G. Scholz.

Regional Art Museum named after N. Onatsky was established in 1920, teacher, artist and social activist Nicanor Kharitonovich Onatsky. The museum was founded on the basis of a private collection of Oscar-Herman Hansen, whose name is on a par with such famous patrons and fans of the beautiful as Kharitonenko Tereshchenko Khanenko. In order to somehow save his collection from the Bolsheviks, Hansen had to take it from Kiev to Sumy relatives. In 1919 it was discovered thousands of unique items, so in 1920, appeared in the city museum.

To date, the funds of the Sumy Regional Art Museum named after N. Onatsky there are more than 15 thousand. Pieces. The entire museum exposition is placed in eight halls of the old mansion. In the halls of the first floor are works of drawing, painting and sculpture, and on the second floor there are masterpieces of decorative and applied arts of famous Ukrainian and foreign artists of the present and the past centuries.

Despite the rather advanced age as the building and the collection itself, Art Museum. NH Onatsky in Sumy continues to be the center of the beautiful as a collection of fine and decorative art can not boast many museums of Ukraine.
