Si Satchanalai is not only the historical heritage of Thailand and the city of the ancient kingdom of Sukhothai, but also recognized by the World Heritage according to UNESCO. It is considered a miniature copy of the city of Sukhothai, capital of the eponymous kingdom. The Si Satchanalai the reins have been direct descendants of the royal couple, the peak is observed in the development of the city since 1347 for 1368 during the reign of King Ly Thai. To date, in the ancient city remained predominantly Buddhist religious structures, they are both inside and outside the city walls.
Wat Chang Lom is located almost in the center of the old town, the main element of its architecture is the chedi (stupa) in the style of Sri Lanka. However, in the temple and the unique style of the traces of the kingdom Sukhothai: base chedi is surrounded by statues of 39 elephants.
Temple Chedi Jet Thaye, opposite Wat Chang Lom, contains a number of magnificent seven chedi created in completely different styles. They felt the impact of Sri Lanka, and Pagan and Shrividzhayi. At the top of many of the chedi is the lotus as a symbol of the pure mind.
Inside the city walls is another important chedi, created in the style of Sri Lanka, you can see it in the temple of Wat Nang Phaya. Outside the city worth visiting Wat Phra Si Ratanamanhathat and Wat Chao Chan, whose architecture is similar to the late period of the kingdom of Lopburi.
During its heyday Si Satchanalai was a major center for the production of ceramic style Svankhalok or Sangkalok, archaeologists still occasionally find its fragments, as well as elements of the kilns in the area near the town. It operates a small museum of ancient pottery, with the support of the Center for the Study of Si Satchanalai and preservation products Sangkalok style.
Not far from Si Satchanalai is another ancient settlement Chaliang, it is built in the Khmer style. This suggests that the date of its construction accounted for a much earlier period of history than the existence of the Kingdom of Sukhothai.
