Karanovsky residential mound is located in the northwest of the village of Karanovo, 10 km away from the town of Nova Zagora. Barrow is located near the small spurs Ridge Mountain Cheese. The first studies Karanovskogo residential mound were carried out in the 50s of the 20th century.

Karanovsky is one of the largest residential mounds in Bulgaria. Its height is 13 m, length - 250 m, width - 150 meters. Studied only 1700 square meters. m mound, but most of its archaeological value is disclosed. We investigated cultural layers of 12, 4 m in thickness, making it possible to determine the sequence of formation of layers to make a periodization of cultural layers and the individual layers make Karanovskuyu chronological scheme. Archaeologists have traced all the prehistoric periods, starting with the Stone Age and the Bronze Age finishing. Currently finds discovered in the barrow, exhibited in museums in Nova Zagora and Sofia.

In the north-east of the village (1, 3 km) was found fortified settlement. It housed a public building, shaped basilica and the necropolis, which consisted of 16 barrows (Birnikovy, East, Long et al.). At this point, we carried out archaeological excavations in the 1976-1998 biennium.

In 2008, archaeologists have studied the East mound in 2009 there was found a vaulted tomb of a rich Thracian nobleman (1 in. BC. E.), Built of stone. It found two silver cups, which depicts the god Eros, glass vessels, coins, gold rings and silver brooches and combat gear. There, archaeologists have discovered a fighting chariot on 4 wheels, which were harnessed two horses. It is made of wood, bronze and leather wheel diameter - 1, 2 m. The site is now opening itself and a copy of the chariot overhead ornaments for horses in bronze. Also in the East mound was much smaller finds, representing the provincial Roman art: clay pots, bowls of silver with gold and other items.
