The building of the residence was built for the Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau at the beginning of the XVIII century. Now there are government and university management bodies.
Making luxurious interiors was entrusted to Lucas von Hildebrandt and was completed in 1727. Ceremonial Hall in the late Baroque and early classical richly decorated with wall and ceiling paintings, stucco and tapestries. On the third floor is a gallery with a magnificent collection of European painting XVI-XIX centuries.
In the outer courtyard of the residence is a Baroque fountain, decorated with horses and newts. On the opposite side of the square stands the new residence, where the bishop lived during the restructuring of the palace. Since 2004, it houses the Museum of Sattler.
