Franciscan Church is one of the oldest churches in the old part of the Austrian city of Salzburg. Romanesque portal of the 13th century in the Gothic presbytery is decorated with statues of Jesus Christ sitting on the throne of St. Peter and St. Rupert, and the ceiling of the room is a magnificent starry vault. In the 16th century it was built a baroque portal.

The exact origins of the Church is not clear, however, its construction is connected with the church of St. Virgil .  Like most of the other churches in Salzburg, he has frequently been the victim of a fire, but in the end, fell victim to the punishment of the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa in 1167 .  Citizens have helped with the reconstruction of the 12th century .  In the restoration work was invited architect Hans von Burghausen, who won fame for his church in Pandskhut .  His masterpiece is the magnificent hall choir which effectively reflects the fusion of light and darkness .  The original altar was built by Michael Pacher in the 1495-1498 years, but, unfortunately, has not survived to the present day .  Fortunately, his Madonna and Child was saved and later put in a new altar, created in the years 1709-1710 Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach .  Above the altar are magnificent filigree lattice Rococo started in 1790 by Thomas Rekesenom .  In the chapel of St. .  Francis frescoes Rottmayera work on the theme of the life of the holy founder of the monastic order .
