At the end of 1928 the botanical garden was transferred to the North Caucasus (Rostov, and today - Southern Federal) University. In a short time the park was laid forest type and an arboretum of more than 400 new species to the region. During World War II most of the plants and buildings were lost. Now of prewar planting and kept in good condition 54 species, including beech, hornbeam, Celtis australis and Mississippi, Amur velvet, Chekalkin walnut, oak macrocarpa and krupnopylnikovy, small-leaved elm. Most older plants - pedunculate oak - more than 120 years.
Currently, the Botanical Garden is an educational and scientific division of the Southern Federal University, occupies 160 hectares classified as natural monuments of regional significance.
