Museum of Contemporary Art in Roskilde was founded in 1991. The main impetus for the creation of the museum was the idea of ​​focus and discover the people contemporary art and a variety of directions. The opening of the museum helped the municipality of Roskilde, which was made possible thanks to the existence of a cultural institution. A few years later, in 1994, the state approved the museum, making it a national.

Today, the museum deals with the date information as a Danish and international, including sound recordings, video, Internet art. Exhibitions are held both inside the museum and outside its walls. Among other activities, the museum every two years, is the venue for the festival ACTS, dedicated to the performing arts.

The Museum carries out research in the field of contemporary art, is a place of storage of contemporary art, presentation of the latest trends, but also contains a collection dedicated to Danish and international art. Over the past 25 years, the collection significantly enriched their expansion continues to this day. The museum considers it a priority to organize educational tours for schoolchildren and students.

Museum of Contemporary Art - an independent institution, which is funded by government grants and private investment. Now the museum is housed in the residence of the royal city of Roskilde. It was built in 1733 on the orders of King Christian VI, as has been the chief architect Lauritz de Tyr.
