Lovely Greek island of Rhodes is famous for its history and an abundance of interesting sights. Every year, here comes a huge number of tourists from all over the world.

One of the main attractions of Rhodes considered the Church of the Annunciation, located in the eponymous capital of the island. Great Orthodox church is in the immediate vicinity of the city's harbor and is in the Gothic style. The church was built in 1925 during the reign of the Italians on the island (however, many facilities in the city are from this period). The architectural prototype of this structure was the Church of St. John, which was located in the old town next to the Palace of the Grand Masters, and was built in the 14th century by the Knights in honor of their patron St. John. Unfortunately, in the 19th century, the once majestic temple was destroyed and have survived only the ruins.

Despite the somewhat ascetic view of the outside of the temple, the interior and decoration are striking with its magnificence. The church walls are decorated with beautiful frescoes of the famous Greek painter Fotis Kondoglu.

Today, the Church of the Annunciation is the cathedral of Rhodes. The magnificent neo-gothic architecture and the amazing atmosphere of the temple attract a huge number of visitors. Near the cathedral there are such magnificent architectural structures as the National Theatre, City Hall, the residence of the governor, the Post Office and the Mosque of Murat Reis, it is definitely worth a visit.
