The famous Theatre of the Word - is a big project, the head of which was a graduate of Theatre Shchukin School director Leonid Izotov. Start of development of the theater was laid in 1975. Since its inception, it was created as a poetic theater, and the theater of artistic expression. The main part of the team are young people - students and schoolchildren.

The first performance, which brought the new theater of unprecedented popularity, became a poetic journalistic performance staged in 1976 on the Spanish poet Lorca's poems by Federico Garcia called "I write your name, Freedom! ". It was this performance became a laureate of the All-Union amateur theaters. Immediately behind this performance went one more play based on the poem by Alexander Blok's "Twelve." Both productions have stood about 100 submissions.

Theatrical block repertoire concerning poetic direction, is widely presented not just to play performances in the verses Langston Hughes ("And there is nothing to grieve", "blues"), Andrei Voznesensky ("I want silence," "Nostalgia"), the great Russian sweat Alexander Pushkin ("Autumn", "Winter is what we do"), Vladimir Mayakovsky ("Mayakovsky laughing. smiling Mayakovsky. Mayakovsky mocks"), Russian classical poets of 18-20 centuries, based on the works of famous poets of the Silver Age; It was also presented performances of poems by Sasha Chorny, Sergei Yesenin, Marina Tsvetaeva, Osip Mandelstam, Boris Pasternak.

An important part of the repertoire of the Theatre of the Word made dramatic works, the largest of which was a reference point for youth and children's audience: Nina Dolinina "them and us", Lev Ustinov "Island in half," Vladimir Konstantinov and Boris Ratser "Lefty" Roots Chukovsky "Oh How It Hurts" Samuil Marshak "Cat House" and many other famous works. Theatre prepares evening of music and poetry of the author, in the evening of Russian romances and personal creative evening of the leading and renowned actors: Irina Kalinina-Barabanova, Artem Tasalova, Vladimir Lutsker, Oleg Grigoriev Svetlana Bogdanova, Masha Obodovoy, Alexey Kuzmin, family Grigoriev. In the period 1977-1987's Theater of the Word was able to use a unique form of cultural and educational Peredvizhnichestvo, namely a two-week summer and winter "landing" in regional areas. Concerts and performances were given in village schools, clubs, and "red corners" on the streets or even in the field. The theater itself increasingly sought his audience, speaking in factories, in schools, clubs. Most often, after such a performance in the theater came to new actors. For all the time Theatre actors were about a hundred people. Children most previously worked as an actor in the future also took part in his life.

Today the theater's Word also provides a stormy creative activities. A variety of performances are held on Saturdays at the theater on the street Soviet. Currently the theater's repertoire consists of seven performances, and the project is still being finalized two productions. On the theater stage brought to life unique in its kind, the ethnographic, musical-theater project - "Pskov dolt."
