Michael's first church was built in 1399. In ancient times it housed a small fortification - "Gorodets". Until the XVI century on the site was hosted on Old bargaining. To him converge all the central streets. Once the temple was standing on a hill, which over the centuries has become almost invisible. The church became a cathedral in 1429, and especially its settled in at the end of the XVIII century.

Today's stone church was built in the II half of XVII century. Archbishop Eugene in the "History of the principality of Pskov" is intended that a temple was established in 1439 to be the Cathedral, rebuilt in 1694, re-consecrated in 1696. Around the church are located 1 noetazhnye housing, which in the XIX century was a hospice at the bishop's house, and at the beginning of XX - apartments were clergy. One apartment handed Cyril and Methodius Brotherhood for selling religious literature.

In September 1786, by decree of the Pskov spiritual consistory, the church of the Archangel Michael was attributed to the temple Cosmas and Damian to nestle. By 1808 the church completely dilapidated and destined for demolition, but the Holy Synod forbidden to do so. By 1900, remaining diocesan, the church was handed over to the Yenisei Regiment regimental treb and worship. On Sundays and public holidays services were regimental priest in church holidays - the clergy temple Cosmas and Damian.

The church had two throne: the chief - in the name of the Holy Archangel Michael and the other bodiless powers and the throne - in the right side - in honor of the provisions of the Belt of the Virgin. The left side chapel - in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary - because of old age has been abolished, it was placed in the diocesan candle factory, and later - a church bench.

The bell tower of the Moscow-type tent was built simultaneously with the church over the entrance gate between two stone houses. Once at the church housed the hospice. From it left the chapel with the icon of the Mother of God "Soothe My Sorrows", especially revered by locals.

In June 1920 the Pskov administration department of the county-city executive committee was an act by which the church and the chapel transferred to the religious community. In the Soviet era, when the Trinity Cathedral was captured "Renovators" Church of Archangel Michael again become a cathedral for the faithful who have been faithful to Patriarch Tikhon. The parishioners went to the temple, but not in the Trinity Cathedral, unoccupied during services. The temple was closed in July 1936. At the end of 1930, there were aeroklubny staff and parachute training classes.

In the years 1941-1945 the Pskov Orthodox mission was reinstated procession around Pskov, the feast day of the Archangel Michael. During the fighting, the temple was partially damaged walls, roof, exterior and interior trim. In 1948, the church complex was restored under the plan YP Spegalsky. But then again the temple was closed.

After the closure of the church was in a derelict state, it was used mainly as a warehouse for a long time repairing it does not. Here, as in other churches, has repeated the same story: learning about the opening of the temple, people began to carry the icon. The iconostasis is restored different masters. The bottom row of icons was written in Moscow, the deacon's doors, King's Gate, the second series of gala - in Tver, third and fourth rows - in Pskov.
