Bethlehem Chapel in Prague's Old Town looks simple and modest, but it has great historical significance. It is popular due to the fact that within its walls he preached John Huss. Accordingly, in this temple of worship were only in the Czech language, and its parishioners were considered supporters of the Reformation. After the defeat at White Mountain Protestants chapel came under the jurisdiction of the Jesuits, who have made every effort to destroy the slightest reminder of Jan Huss. Were painted all the pictures on the walls, removed the chair from which were preaching. However, the building itself was not damaged and was waiting in the wings, but the sponsorship of the Jesuits did not wait, but they are actively invested in the reconstruction of the other temples.
In the end, the people of Prague have considered this chapel redundant and it was demolished in 1786. It was rebuilt only after 168 years - in the middle of the XX century. Clever architect Jaroslav Fragner, not trying to create a completely new building, and working with old drawings, raising the same chapel, which has been here many years ago. He used fragments preserved walls to give the building plaque antiquity. We even managed to recover some of the frescoes, which are of great historical value.
Today, the chapel belongs to the Czech Technical University, and it usually hosts various celebrations. It is placed about 3 thousand people. Modern Bethlehem Chapel has two needle-like roof and cupola that is visible from all angles not.
