Old Market Square - the central square in Poznan, was founded in 1253 as the main place to buy and sell goods. Old market is the third largest square in Poland after Krakow and Wroclaw, one of the largest in Europe. Before the Second World War was the center of economic and political life of the city. He is currently one of the most visited attractions in Poznan.

Old Market has the shape of a square with sides 140 meters, are located on the perimeter of the building, built in the 16th century: restaurants, merchants' houses, inns. Perhaps, the main building is the Old Market Hall, planted in 1253. In the years 1550-1560, after a strong fire the building was rebuilt by Italian architect Giovanni di Quadro Renaissance. Before the Second World War, the Town Hall housed the city administration, and now works here History Museum.

Buildings in the old market built in different architectural styles, reflecting the tastes and trends in different historical epochs. During the Second World War, the Old City with the area was heavily damaged. As a result, the reconstruction of many of the buildings have lost their original appearance. Most of the houses have been restored in a classical style and baroque, however, the house numbered 50 and 51 gained facades, made in the Gothic style.

In the northeast corner of the Old Market, near the fountain of Proserpine is Pillory, built in 1535. The original colony in the late Gothic style height of 5, 5 meters is in the Museum of history of the city and on the square you can see an exact replica installed in 1925. It received their punishment, those who wore clothes too lush, velvet, satin and jewelry. Pillory used for capital punishment for such violations: were public flogging, cutting off ears and fingers.

In the Old Market there are four fountains: Fountain of Neptune Fountain of Mars, the fountain of Proserpine and the fountain of Apollo.
