Meduna - a fortress city on the north-east of Podgorica, near the village of Cu Chi. Until now only preserved ruins of this once large-scale construction. Meduna - the place is literally a personification of the history of the Montenegrin nation, tells of a proud independent character and courage of the people. This is a real open-air museum.

The fortress was built on top of a hill, you can get around the neighborhood a few kilometers ahead, to avoid an unexpected enemy attack. Today, these types serve as a background for tourist photos.

According to historians against the fortress agree on the fact that it was built long before the first mention of it by Titus Livy in his historical writings - about the III century BC. In this period the city was inhabited by the Illyrians, and called him Meteon or Madeon. The fortress then had a completely different shape and appearance. The only thing that remained the same - its purpose. Defense against the invasion of other tribes unfriendly (first from the Macedonians and Romans, after - from the Ottoman Empire) - is the main role of the walled city.

Due to the fact that in different periods of the city owned different tribes, each owner was trying to make something of their own in the overall look: Fortress experienced the influence of Roman, medieval and Turkish views on architecture. However, the most ancient buildings remained intact: the stairs carved back in Illyrian period into the rock, leading to the acropolis, which is above the fortress. Sami walls and built of roughly hewn stones. By the Illyrian buildings also include two of the pit walls, preserved to our days, and the cemetery. The purpose of these ditches still uniquely scientists have not been determined. There is an assumption that the ditches were not created for the defense of the city, and for rituals and ceremonies, which are widely used by snakes - that was the cult of the Illyrians.

Until the XIX century the city was inhabited Meduna. The house and the tomb of the writer and the commander Marco Milyanova preserved here. It is this public figure willing to bring together the peoples of Albania and Montenegro.
