When there was a railway station Pilsen, around spontaneously started building houses. For several years, a new area that had to be linked to the rest of the city, for this was the need for a new bridge over the river Radbuza. The purpose of this was to unload Jansky crossing the bridge, which was at the brewery.

Wilson bridge was built between the English and the Denisova embankment in 1913. The architect was appointed Vaclav Mentsl, which is not always pored over drawings and sketches. He is known for having previously served as the local mayor. As the material for the new bridge Mentsl chose a stone, which at that time had already lost its leading position in the construction, giving them concrete. Although without the latter case there is also no cost. Stone used for cladding the two arches of the bridge height of 27, 5 meters, and the concrete is poured in support of this facility.

Wilson Bridge was inaugurated on September 28, 1913. At the time, it got its name in honor of the reigning monarch Franz Joseph I. At the same time on the bridge were built tram lines: the city planned to put here the first tram. However, these initiatives have remained dreams. Ways were not removed before the Second World War.

In 1918, the bridge was renamed in honor of President of the United States - Wilson was the name he is known today. Attempts Rename it, for example, the bridge of Charles IV (1939), Victory Bridge (in 1941), Stalin's Bridge (1945), but the name did not stick. Its former name, he received only at the end of the XX century.
