The first mention of the church of San Frediano relate to 1061. It was founded by the family of Butstsakkerini-Sismondi and originally was dedicated to St. Martin. Once located next to the church hospital.

Romanesque facade of San Frediano, is typical of the medieval architecture of Pisa .  It is decorated with blind arches, diamond-shaped figures and two-color stones, which were also used in the construction of the city's cathedral .  At the top of the facade can be seen a huge arched window .  The interior, in spite of the terrible fire in 1675, is well preserved .  The Church has the typical basilica plan - central nave and two side chapels .  Marble columns with capitals decorated with stucco figures in the Romanesque style .  Among stored here works of art can be identified rare Grand Cross of the 12th century, painted on a gilded panels, a few baroque altars, restored in the 16th and 17th centuries, and paintings of the 17th century brush Ventura Salimbeni with the image of "Annunciation" and "Nativity" .  Aurelio Lomi belongs to the painting "Adoration of the Magi" .  Numerous frescoes - is the creation of Domenico Passignano .  The dome painted by Rutilio Manetti .  Above the apse is a window in the center of which you can see the coat of arms of the family Agostini, patrons of the Church .

Near the church of San Frediano stands sturdy brick bell tower. Interestingly, there is a number of offices of different social movements and associations, such as the Leaning department of the Italian Catholic Federation of Students, the Association of Catholic Students, Association "Sante Malatesta", which assists foreign students who came to Pisa from countries where there is a war or from countries with high levels of poverty.
