Museum Shipyard "Vanguard" was founded in 1984, and 5 years after the plant is 50 years since the start of its work. The museum was created on the basis of materials that tell about the role of shipbuilding and navigation in the history of Karelia, Russia and Europe.

The main part of the museum of history and labor glory of the plant "Avangard" make numerous models of ships, samples of souvenirs and furniture, as well as other products by the company. In addition, among the exhibits include various kinds of diplomas, certificates, banners, awards and gifts presented the plant.

The exposition includes three sections: the history of shipbuilding, presented models of different kind and purpose ships; a photo exhibition titled "Petrozavodsk - 300 years of Russian Fleet factory service"; a collection dedicated to the glory of shipyard employment "Vanguard", presented in the relics and rewards.

The museum exhibited the works of famous poets, artists, photographers, writers; available for viewing photos and documents on the topic: "On service in the sea of ​​native plants." The museum has an archive that has numerous collections of photos, documents, albums and publications.

The museum has a departmental status, and its founder is himself Shipyard "Vanguard". The museum organizes lectures and in-depth review with slideshow, album, and also organizes excursions throughout the plant "Avangard" in Petrozavodsk.
