Kirov Square is the central and main square of the capital of Karelia - Petrozavodsk city. On the square is a monument of architecture of 18-19 centuries and a small park. Kirov Square is the venue for most of the major events in the city.
The first building, which appeared on the square in the early 18th century, two churches were made of wood: Svyatoduhovsky and Paul. Last according to legend, it was designed by Peter the Great. After completion of the Alexandrovsky plant in 1777 at the Kirov Square were built two cathedrals, one of them Svyatoduhovsky Cathedral, as well as two high schools - for men and women.
At various times Kirov Square bore different names. In the 18th century. the area was named the Castle Square in 1860 - Cathedral in 1923 - Freedom Square in 30 years - the area of Labor, since 1944 - the area of the Kirov.
In 1956, the square was built theater building designed by three architects: A. Maximov, Chechme E. and S. Brodsky. The building was decorated and painted under the leadership of S. Konenova. Theater operates to this day, and there are the creative teams of the Musical Theatre and Theatre of Russian Drama.
In 1965, the building that used to be a cinema "Triumph", rebuilt in the National Theatre. After a recent renovation, the building was constructed small stage and attach a few extra floors above the wings of the building. It also works the puppet theater.
