Hlemutsi - a medieval fortress in the Peloponnese, in the prefecture of Ilia (Alice), Western Greece. It is located 12 km west of Andravida and 6 km south of the port town of Killiney.

Hlemutsi fortress was built in the years 1220-1223 Achaean ruler of the principality (known as the Principality Yeshe sea) Geoffrey I Villehardouin. The fortress was one of the main strongholds of the crusaders in the region but in the first place was built for extra protection of the medieval port Glarentsa, the ruins of which, in fact, built a modern port of Kyllini.

Given that Hlemutsi built just a few kilometers from the coast on top of a hill at an altitude of 220 m above sea level, which provides an excellent overview of how the sea horizon, and a significant part of the land of Elis and Achaia, to place the fortress was chosen strategically. Not surprisingly, the castle over the centuries is of particular interest for invaders. Alternately, here dominated by Franks, Catalans, Byzantines, Venetians and Turks. Recent disposed here until 1821 and made a number of changes in the architecture of the fortress. In 1825, Ibrahim Pasha, the Egyptian forces partially destroyed Hlemutsi continue castle is no longer used.

Today the fortress Hlemutsi - an important historical and architectural monument, and perhaps one of the best and most well extant specimens fortifications initial period frankokratii in Greece. Every year in the summer in the castle concerts and variety shows.

From the top of the fortress offers stunning panoramic views of the vast expanses of the Ionian Sea and the picturesque island of Zakynthos. On the slopes of the hill is a small hamlet of Castro.
