Roman Catholic Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul - the most important landmark of the city of Pécs, its business card. The history of the cathedral dates back to the Roman Empire. The first church - the chapel here began in the late 4th century, later it was an early Christian cathedral, which is the 8th century was expanded.

The construction of the Romanesque cathedral started after the fire of 1064. The building was attended by the Italian, Hungarian, Lombard masters. In the Middle Ages the architectural appearance of the cathedral has changed due to the construction of two 60-meter towers. Later there was a chapel in Gothic style.

  The cathedral is not lossless survived long Turkish occupation of 1543 - 1686 year. The first attempts at restoration and renovation relate to 1807 - according to the plans Mihaly Pollack main facade in the spirit of classicism gained rushing to the sky view. And there were statues on the facade of the twelve apostles master Mihai Bartalitsa.

  Its present appearance of the Cathedral acquired after reconstruction 1882-1891 period. The length of the cathedral is 70 m, width - 20 m, height of the nave - 22 m. The restoration work was carried out by Austrian architect Friedrich von Schmidt. It has retained its medieval layout, interior and exterior in the post-Romanesque style. Recent restoration work on the Cathedral took place in the period between 1962 and 1968.

During these years, the cathedral was decorated with statues of the apostles new work Károly Antal, and in 2000 - bronze "Gates Millennium" Sandor Retfalvi.
