Moravian town Chrast was built on a hill near Chrudim. Its founders considered the Benedictine monks who built in the XIII century monastery in this place. He did not last long: in 1421 he was sacked and destroyed the Hussite troops.

In this monastery was created a huge volume and format of the book - "Devil's Bible", so named because, according to legend, a monk who was assigned to write the book alone, helping the devil. It is said that a monk has created this book in one night. Now it is kept in Sweden, and it is an exact copy of the local castle, which was built in the Renaissance style and later reconstructed in the Baroque style. This palace for a long time served as the residence of the bishops of Hradec Kralove. Now the castle is a museum dedicated to the history of art and crafts of the local region. Among the treasures of the museum, you can mark several paintings A. Mahkam dated the end of the XVIII century.

At the site of the ruined monastery in 1696 they built the Church of St. Margaret's. Among other sacral buildings of the city should be mentioned chapel of St. John of Nepomuk, which is located behind the park adjacent to the castle, and the Church of the Holy Trinity. It was erected in the years 1612-1618, and after some time completely burned. In 1774 it was restored and opened for worship.

At the cemetery near the church of St. Martin, the reconstruction of which he spent Santini, prominent citizens are buried and the bishops for a long time to provide leadership Chrast.
