Olhão is located 8 km from Faro and in fact is the largest fishing port in the Algarve. As the city of Olhão became known only in the XIX century. Until that time, it was a small fishing village with a small number of people, and the first mention of it dates back to the year 1328. Housing for local residents were huts built of wood, straw and reeds. Later, in the XVII century, a fortress was built to protect the inhabitants from pirate raids.

In the historic city has museums, churches. In the city center, at the end of the street, on the square of the Restoration is one of the churches in the city that are worth visiting. This is the church of Our Lady of the Rosary - Nossa Senhora do Rosario. The temple was built in 1698 with donations from fishermen and was the first stone building constructed in the city of Olhão.

Draws attention facade of the church of Our Lady of the Rosary, in the baroque style. The pediment is decorated with ornaments made of curls, and in the center is the shield, flanked by angels. The church was consecrated a little later, in 1715. Entrance to the main chapel of the church is made in the form of a triumphal arch, inside the chapel is carved gilded altar of the XVII century. The ceiling is decorated with frescoes of the XVII century image of Our Lady of the Rosary. There's also a side chapel inside which is carved altars. Do not go unnoticed statues inside the temple, namely, statues of the XVII century depicting the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and the Apostles.
