Maritime Museum of Fame was opened in Odessa in honor of the momentous event in the history of the country, it will forever change - "legendary attack of the century." Creation of the museum was the initiative of Odessa association of veterans-submariners, each member of which was directly involved in World War II. The opening of the museum took place on 30 January 2010. On this day, 65 years ago the Soviet submariners accomplished a feat, went down in history as the "attack of the century." So submarine S-13 sank the ship "Wilhelm Gustloff", which was 10582 person. Along with the ship was lost in 1300 German submariners, 406 sailors and officers, 250 female soldiers. It is believed that the sinking of the liner has brought great damage to the German Navy. In addition to military personnel on board was a large number of refugees were mostly elderly people and children. Unfortunately, they too were killed.

So, in honor of the opening of the museum, it was a gift given to the model of the submarine S-13 from the chairman Regional Council Nikolai Skorik. Another, no less massive and costly model of the submarine M-96 was presented to the People's Deputy S. Kivalov. The opening of the museum also participated actively in the management and the students of the Odessa Marine College named after AI Marinesko.
