The famous University of Mumbai, and affectionately call him by students of MU, is a public educational institution, which is located in Mumbai, in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Until 1996, he therefore called the University of Bombay.

This university is one of the oldest higher educational institutions of the country .  It was founded in 1857 by Dr. John Wilson, in the likeness of educational institutions in Britain .  Today the university complex consists of several buildings: Kalina campus, located in the suburb of Mumbai; Campus Fort; Campus and several other Ratnagiri .  But the main campus is the Fort, which houses the whole administration of the institution, moreover, it is the stunning architectural structure .  The campus is so named because of the district, which is - it is a bustling business center of the city, in whose territory the last positioned defensive fort .  The building was built in the Gothic style and attracts its special solemn and gloomy atmosphere .  It is replete with arches, columns and narrow windows and stained glass windows .  One of the main attractions of this building is the clock tower, called Radzhabali, or whatever it is called Mumbai Big Ben .  It was designed by British architect Sir George Gilbert Scott .  Its construction was completed in 1870 .  It was named in honor of a woman named Radzhabali mother Raychanda merchant Premchand, who sponsored the building .  The tower has a height of 85 meters and it is located in the University Library .

Following the acquisition of India's independence University of Mumbai is no longer just an educational institution. At the moment he became a Research Cent, who has been studying and solving various social problems, as well as sociology and politics. Also, most of the profzavedeny (colleges and academies) are a part of the city.
