Manila Zoo and Botanical Garden, opened in 1959, it covers an area of 5, 5 ha. Today it is the largest and oldest zoo in the Philippines. Every year it is visited by millions of tourists, especially crowded here on weekends and holidays.

The zoo is home to over 600 animals, including 150 reptiles, 299 birds and 159 mammals. Here you can see the Asian buffalo, a rare Asian deer (the world's smallest), Palawan pheasants, iguanas, crocodiles, owls, tigers, turtles and other animals. But the most popular "resident" is Mali, Asian elephant, which is orphaned in infancy, was transported here from Sri Lanka. At the zoo is working Wildlife Center, which serves as a temporary shelter for sick and injured wild animals, as well as for animals seized from poachers by customs.

With regard to the botanical garden, then there are a lot of species of plants and trees from the Philippines and South Pacific region - about 500 species. In addition to the botanical garden with a variety of floral collections, there is also an arboretum.

Today, the zoo held a variety show featuring animals, organized children's playgrounds, picnic areas arranged built pavilions, souvenir shops. Inside is a petting zoo where young visitors can personally interact with home and trained animals, learn a lot about their lives and habitat.

Despite the enormous popularity with the people, not a zoo again became the target of criticism because of the debris on its territory and inadequate animal welfare. It is worth noting that the administration is making efforts to change the status quo - regularly planting new plants and expanding animal enclosures. Reptile house has been modernized, and in the near future will be expanded enclosure for small mammals. It is also planned to acquire giraffe and zebra.
