In ancient times, the temple was called Jeseru Jeseru, which translated means "sacred." It was built during the nine years 1482 to 1473 years. Don. e. in the seventh year of the female pharaoh Hatshepsut. The architecture of the temple engaged senenmut, who was known as an outstanding architect and statesman.

The temple has a resemblance to the palace and tomb of Mentuhotep even considered it a continuation, despite the fact that it is larger in size .  The structure is partially embedded in the mountain, its width is about forty meters .  Its main components are the three big terraces, decorated with rows of columns of white limestone, visually similar to the honeycombs .  In the center of each terrace there is a ramp leading to the Top .  Inside the temple - a large number of rooms that are sanctuaries and burial chamber .  The main decoration of the temple are numerous statues and sphinxes with the face of the queen, as well as ancient paintings depicting various events during the reign of Queen .  The lower terrace is adjacent to the long avenue of about forty meters wide, which is planted with myrrh trees and exposed sand sphinxes .  By the temple are three stages in the form of large terraces .  Previously, these terraces were broken whole gardens, planted with trees, ponds equipped .

Queen Hatshepsut was the sovereign ruler of Egypt after the death of her husband Tuthmosis II, and the first year of the beginning of the construction of the grand buildings, including the tomb for himself. As a result, the rock temple has become the largest and richest of the time structure. Place for the construction of the temple was not chosen by chance. Thanks to the nearby temple Mentuhotep, who became the founder of the XVIII dynasty of pharaohs, Hatshepsut wanted to emphasize their right to the throne.
