Castle (Castle) is located on a hill above the old town, with a magnificent view over the city. The exact date of foundation is not available, the first mention of the castle accounts for 1144. In laying the castle is still preserved fragments of Celtic, Illyrian and Roman structures. Its present appearance of the castle got in the XVI century, as the earthquake in 1511 that left little of medieval buildings. Tower of the castle dates back to 1848.

The chapel of St. George, dating from the end of the XV century. Once a year, on the first Sunday of January, the day of celebration of St. George, pilgrims flock here like old times.

After 1815 the castle was located in the hospital, and later - a military garrison and a prison. Current city authorities are going to restore and reconstruct the castle ensemble, which is the symbol of the capital of Slovenia.
