National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History of Peru is the oldest state museum of the country. Its importance lies in the vast and varied cultural heritage, placed in its halls and archives. Ceramics, textiles, metal and stone, made by ancient craftsmen pre-Hispanic techniques that still amaze modern specialists.

The museum was founded in 1822 by José Bernardo de Tagle and Portocarrero, Jose Bernardo de Monteagudo and Mariano Eduardo de Rivero and Ustariz, who later became the first director of the museum. Thanks to the work of three people project of the National Museum of Peru was embodied in 1826. The museum building is located in Pueblo Libre in Lima, in the mansion of the XVIII century in which he lived, Simon Bolivar and the generalissimo Don Jose de San Martin.

In the hall of the museum you can also see the stele Raimondi - monolithic stone sculpture in the form of a parallelepiped, one side of which depicts a mythical creature with two staffs resembling god Viracocha Tiwanaku culture pertaining to the Chavin culture of ancient Peru. The museum's collection are also paintings of the colonial period, mainly Cusco School of painting, and priceless examples of textiles Paracas culture.

The museum organizes temporary exhibitions, archaeological workshops on conservation of finds of ceramics, textiles and metal and has a workshop for the training of children and adolescents.
