Located in the southern part of Larnaca, near the waterfront, the local fort once was considered one of the main fortifications of the city. And now this place is a historical monument of the Middle Ages and the present attraction for tourists.

The first castle on this site was built by the Lusignans in the late XIV century to protect the city harbor from sea raids. Later, when the government took over the Turks in Cyprus, strengthening just got a second life - in 1625 it was completely reconstructed. But over time it has lost its protective function, and it was partially destroyed.

Fort was restored in the second half of the XIX century, during the reign of the British on the island. It was during the period of the British fortress turned into a police station and was used as a prison. In addition, there is executed the most dangerous criminals - in the courtyard of a specially established for this gallows. This lasted until the middle of last century. The last execution took place on the territory of the fort in 1948. Almost immediately after that the police station was moved to another location.

Today in building a historical museum where you can see many unique items - from the finds of ancient times to the Middle Ages church utensils. Particularly interesting collection of various weapons.

And from the roof of the fortress offers stunning views of the city and the sea.

In addition, today in the courtyard of the city fort, which can accommodate about two hundred spectators, often hosts concerts, plays and other cultural events. This is mainly in the summer.
