The Archaeological Museum, located in the center of Larnaca - the third largest settlement in Cyprus is the ideal place for lovers of antiquity. In it a rich collection of antiquities found in the area where now stands the city.

The museum was founded in 1969, whereas there were only two exhibition halls, but already in 1987-1988 it was greatly expanded exhibition. The museum collection consists of items that belong to different historical periods - from the Neolithic period to the Roman times. Most of them were found on the sites of ancient settlements Choirokoitia (Kirokittiya) and tilt. Surprisingly, these settlements were established even before the period of navigation, which immediately caused a lot of questions about the way in which people were able to get from the mainland to the island. Over time, scientists have concluded that Cyprus became an island after a major earthquake, and before that was the one with Syria.

A special place in the collection is occupied by objects found on the territory of the ancient city Kition, whose ruins are located about 1 km from the museum building, so if you want visitors can even observe the very process of the excavations, which are still ongoing. So, there were found several fine alabaster vases, coins, lamps, statues and tools.

In total, the two main halls of the museum you can see items made of ivory, ceramics, porcelain and alabaster, fragments of columns, statues of pagan gods, the reconstruction of old houses and buildings.
