Motsameta Monastery (Monastery of Sts. David and Constantine) - is one of the brightest sights not only Kutaisi, but the whole of Georgia.

The monastery is located on the rough river Rioni just 3 km from the town of Kutaisi, so most tourists prefer to make him a walk. Nearby it is also a famous Gelati Monastery.

According to legend, the monastery was built on the hill where the Muslim invaders were executed Georgian princes David and Konstantin Mkheidze who refused to convert to Islam. In the XI century. It was built a magnificent temple and founded a monastery, called "Motsameta", which means "martyrs", in honor of the Princes David and Constantine, which canonized the Georgian Church. And today, in the small hall of the monastery on the hill you can see a huge rectangular ark with the relics of pious princes.

Today Motsameta - a beautiful, lush monastery, decorated with round towers, completed spiky tented domes. At the temple there is a small fountain with drinking water, which many consider healing.

The ancient murals in the church are not preserved. All that you can see it today - a creation of modern masters. Not far from the church is the bell tower, the exact date of its construction is still unknown.

In recent years, the monastery is gradually reviving. In 2010, the capital was carried out restoration of buildings and upgrading of the entire surrounding area. On the territory of the temple complex is celebrated annually on October 15 Motsametoba holiday dedicated to the holy brothers David and Constantine.
