Roman Catholic Cathedral of Divine Providence is a spiritual and religious center of Chisinau. The history of the cathedral began in the 20s of XIX century, when this place was built a small chapel in the name of Divine Providence. The interior of the chapel parishioners struck by its beauty - the numerous icons, ornate molding on the walls, three altars, a beautiful vestry. However, ten years after the building was necessary in the construction of a more solid the size of the church, as the chapel could not accommodate all the faithful. Since the money to build the church was not enough, the king Nicholas I was sent an application for the allocation of money from the state treasury. The author of the project and the main architect of the church was made by architect, professor of Architecture of the Academy of Fine Arts of St. Petersburg - Joseph Charlemagne. The cathedral was built in the neoclassical style of the late and had the shape of an elongated rectangle. Inside the church was divided by rows of columns (six in each row) into three naves. In the main altar (wooden, with a stone altar) marked out crowned icon of Our Lady with the Child Jesus in her arms. In addition, the church had a lot of icons and religious sculptures.

In 1963, the decision of the Council for Religious Affairs, the service in the church were banned. However, only a year later by force managed to finally expel the believers from the church.
